Become a Security Guard or a Private Investigator

To become a licensed Security Guard or Private Investigator in Ontario, you must:

Complete the required 40 hour, (1 week) course. In-Class or Online training options are available.

Once completed, you will be eligible to apply for your Ministry examination and obtain your license.

Once licensed, you may work as a Security Guard or Private Investigator.

The Ontario Security License Centre provides you with a modern and up to date method of learning and acquiring your Ministry approved Security Guard or Private Investigator License. Both in-class and Online training option are available. It is a requirement in the province of Ontario that each Security Guard or Private Investigator carries the appropriate license to engage in security related employment.

Licensing Requirements

In order to be eligible for a security or private investigator license, all individuals must:

Complete the required training.
Be at least 18 years old.
Possess a clean criminal record (note: not all criminal charges or convictions will prevent a person from obtaining a license.
Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
